| What does it take to be an entrepreneur?
For one, you need not have all the answers.
But what you need to have is "A
fine sense of what you know and what you
do not," according to Rajat Gupta,
the worldwide managing director of McKinsey
& Co. Inc., the $3 billion plus management
consultancy.
"You can only do so much yourself
- you have to have other people and get
a team going to help you succeed. The
greatest value comes from building things
that last.
And the "best way to go about doing
things is to create one customer at a
time, who will then be fundamental basis
of reference."
But, more than the steps that you take
to be an entrepreneur, the important element
is what you do with your legacy.
"Giving back is even more gratifying
- there are so many different ways you
could give back."
Gupta was delivering the keynote address
at the launch of the Dubai chapter of
The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), a not-for-profit
organization spawned by Silicon Valley-based
entrepreneurs from the Subcontinent.
Its primary role is to develop and promote
a culture of entrepreneurship through
assuming a mentoring role for future aspirants.
Earlier, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed
bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai
Technology, E-commerce and Media Free
Zone, opened the Dubai chapter of TiE.
